Frequently Asked Questions

Who does Auburn TLC serve?

Auburn TLC provides speech therapy, occupational therapy, and feeding therapy for children from ages 6 months to 18 years of age in the Auburn and surrounding areas. We proudly serve clients who have private insurance, Medicaid, and those who choose to pay privately.

What do I need to get started with a formal evaluation?

Auburn TLC will need a referral from your child’s pediatrician faxed to us at 334.734.5512. Once we receive the referral, we will reach out to you to schedule the evaluation. You will need to bring your ID and insurance card with you to the initial appointment. You will be asked to complete client registration, case history, and clinic policies forms, which are either available on our website under the “FORMS” tab or you may complete paper forms at our office.

What happens after the formal evaluation has been completed?

If your child qualifies for services after the evaluation, he/she will be scheduled for 30-minute weekly sessions which typically occur on the same day/time each week. Our private therapy sessions are conducted in a therapy room or small gym area, and they are centered around a play-based, child-led approach. At Auburn TLC, we want children to learn to play and play to learn. Our therapists develop goals based on formal testing results as well as caregiver concerns. We provide strategies and home programs for caregivers to address goals outside of therapy setting to encourage carryover and long-term progress.

How long does my child need therapy?

Since each child develops differently, there is no set timeframe to determine a child’s graduation from therapy; however, the caregiver’s willingness to participate with carryover activities will play a role in your child’s success. Consistent attendance is very important for progress!

Am I allowed to sit in the therapy session with my child?

If it is your first visit with us or your child exhibits difficulty separating from you, then you may accompany your child to the therapy room. We do, however, encourage parents to remain in the waiting room while the child is being treated. Typically the child performs better and we observe more progress when the parent is not in the therapy room.

What insurances does Auburn TLC accept?

We proudly accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Alabama Medicaid, and we are participating providers with Tricare. We also accept cash, check, and credit card payments for private pay clients. A 10% discount is applied for cash or check payments. Although we look into insurance benefits to determine if deductibles have been met and the amount of client copays, we encourage you to check with your insurance provider regarding coverage of speech/language therapy and occupational therapy benefits. Ultimately it is the caregiver’s responsibility to determine whether or not insurance will cover visits.
